Today, we drove through Navajo Nation to go to see Monument Valley. This rock here was just before entering Navajo lands, it is called, the Mexican Hat. The ‘hat’ on top is 18.2 meters long. I would have loved to draw the monuments of Monument Valley, but we didn’t fancy stopping the car again for 30 to 40 minutes in a desert under 37 degrees.

Going in Navajo lands and in the Park, I found an English-Navajo dictionary (hurray!), and it looks like a quite complex language to me. The museum of the Park shows a lot about the history of the Navajo people. It is a long fight for rights that is depicted there, as well as the story of most recent war heroes, when the U.S. army hired more than 400 navajo people as Code Talkers during WW2.
